    Ingredients

Please note that below is a guide for some of the ingredients we used in the recipe. The printable recipe further down the page has the complete list of ingredients, including quantities and step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients used for chocolate rice bubble slice.
    • Marshmallows: If you are using jumbo marshmallows, cut them into smaller pieces before using.
    • Butter
    • Rice bubbles (krispies)
    • Chocolate chips: You could use milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or even white chocolate chips. If you use white chocolate chips, your slice will be lighter in color. You could even use caramilk chocolate to make a caramilk rice bubble slice.

    Instructions

Step One: Grease and line a slice tin (19cm x 19cm, 7.48 inches x 7.48 inches) with parchment paper on the bottom and sides.

Before you begin making this slice, make sure you have all your ingredients prepared as you will need to work quickly.

This is because as soon as the marshmallows and butter are taken off the heat and rice bubbles are mixed through, the slice will start to set.

Step Two: In a medium to large saucepan, heat the butter and marshmallows over low to medium heat until melted.

Step Three: Turn off heat. Mix the rice bubbles and chocolate chips through the butter and marshmallow mixture.

Mixing the chocolate rice bubble slice in a saucepan with a wooden spoon.

Step Four: Pour mixture into prepared slice tin. Press down the mixture using the back of a spoon or spatula to flatten the top and make it even.

If you want the top of the slice to be smooth, simply place parchment paper on top and smooth the slice with your hands.

If you want you can sprinkle some hundreds and thousands on top or drizzle extra melted chocolate on top.

Step Five: Allow to cool until the slice is at room temperature. Cut into 4cm x 4cm (1.57 inches x 1.57 inches) squares or a size of your liking. Serve.

    Tips for Success

    • It is important to have all your ingredients measured out and prepared in advance. You will need to work quickly when adding the ingredients to the pot. As soon as the marshmallows and butter are taken off the heat and rice bubbles are mixed through, the slice will start to set.
    • To make it easier to clean your saucepan after use, soak it in hot water.
    • If you want to flatten the top of your chocolate crackle slice, use the back of a spoon which has been dipped in hot water.
